Interview with filmmaker Sam M Bell

TrashArts Killers v2 will be screening at the Straight-Jacket Guerrilla Film Festival

How did you get into making films?
I got into making films from wanting to tell story's from an early age, and saying cinema as the best  medium for it.

*What inspired you to make your movie?
TrashArts Killers gives a great opportunity for the people within TrashArts to showcase there work and seeing no limitation to the work.

*How has your style evolved?
To me style evolves depending on each project. With TrashArts Killers Volume 2 I wanted my two segments The 7 Stages of Death (with Emma Jayne Lloyd) and Masked One, to be more art-house horror than sleaze or nastiness, mixing with the green screen and using filters. Each short film presents its own new challenges and handy little hints for bigger projects.

*Tell us any strange or funny stories while making the film?
Shooting 7 stages of Death we used my own room for it, and now I have permanent reminder of the film, waking up to colourful hands crawled on the wall and to the left a giant bloody demonic face, well thats what happens when you work with whats around you, cant always afford to put it back together again!

*The Misrule Film Movement & Pink8 manifesto bring what to mind?
An opportunity to showcase films you wouldnt usually see and that dont care for the established expectation for indie cinema. The kinda manifesto that would laugh and piss on a indie being valued at 6million, thats not an indie thats a good dam luxury!

*What can we expect from your next film?
I currently have two films in production With The Right Conditions and Decline. Conditions is weird as hell and has been so creatively satisfying showing some true vulnerability (once again co directed with my partner Emma Jayne Lloyd) and Decline a grim, nasty serial killer flick thats been a joy making Ryan Carter the lead actor is so incredibly engaging in this!
